When applying for a mortgage your lender will instruct a surveyor to carry out a survey on the security property. This is usually a valuation for mortgage purposes only and will not provide detailed information about the property's structural condition.

As a buyer, you are well within your rights to additionally instruct a full structural survey to ensure you are completely happy with the condition of the property.
